Stuck Living With The Parents This Summer?

After being on your own for most of the year, sharing space with your parents may not sound very appealing, and the odd three day weekend or holiday visit doesn’t count. Right now, you’re probably looking at a three month, day-to-day routine that may take some getting used to.

So, in an effort to keep the peace and survive the summer we’ve come up with a few useful tips to help you out and keep everyone sane…

Stay Sane With These Tips…

  1. Set aside your pride and pitch in. Ask your parents what they’d like you to help them out with while you’re at home – don’t wait for them to ask for your help.
  2. Be mindful of the others. If your parents work or have activities that involve them leaving the house before 8am, be respectful of their sleeping habits and needs. Keep the late nights or all nighters to a minimum.
  3. Keep your space clean. You’re old enough to know better and mommy isn’t your maid. Keep your room and the areas you use clean.
  4. Schedule family time with your parents. Whether it’s a weekly game night, offering to take them to a movie or preparing them a ‘college themed’ ramen noodle dinner – take the time to spend time with them while you’re at home. They’re your parents and are most likely helping you out to some extent with the whole college gig… So show them you appreciate it!
  5. Get your laugh on. A sense of humor will always ease tension. Keep everyone giggling and build a bigger bond with your folks. Laughing does a body good. So, when in doubt, throw a joke in the mix every now and then.
It’s impossible for everyone to get a long 24/7, but maintaining a level head and approaching things diplomatically is a good way to ensure you and everyone in the household stays calm. If that’s not an option, simply leave the area and get some air until you’re able to talk face-to-face again. That whole count to ten thing comes in handy every now and then.

On that note, good luck and happy summer!  As a Dorm Room Movers Author, I look forward to your comments here.

Peace,
